The best career choice you have ever made; choosing to study geology. The second best? Joining the Geological Society of Curtin University (GEOS). Not only does GEOS offer subsidized geology equipment which is essential to your studies (clinometer, hand lens and more), organize awesome social events such as pub crawls and field trips, but gives students the opportunity to attend invaluable networking events with the opportunity to meet industry professionals and learn about what companies are currently recruiting/pathways towards vacation work and graduate programs. If I could be an advocate for anything during your studies, it is to expose yourself to the industry as much as you can, such as vacation programs and part time work, which is something GEOS definitely makes easier to achieve.
